Question Where's my Torque???

ok what happened to the torque in the SE's? i got my SE and a SE tuner kit a couple days ago i got home and noticed with the exact same setup on my original ZZ and my SE (NX motor with blue gears) my ZZ beat my SE. I went to switch morors and gears to see if that was the problem and the motor mount from the SE was magnetized to both motors. but the ZZ mount wasn't
so this leaves one question to be asked: WHERE'S MY TORQUE?

My guess is that it's due to the extra weight of those new rolling "bricks"... they seem to be considerably heavier than the original Zaps.

u mean the black box by the motor and the one in the middle on the left side of the pcb?
that and i think the Steering servo would weigh something too.

Hehe, what I was refering to by "rolling bricks" is that to me, that's what all of the SEs look like LOL -

Anyhow, yes, that's were the additional weight would come from... all of the additional components needed for the new SEs. Try this out: pick up one of your old Zaps, and then one of the new SEs... the SEs are a lot heavier, which of course would make them slower with the same gear/motor setup.

Also, something else that I don't like about the design (although I guess that it can't be helped, due to the room required by the additional components), is that they seem quite top-heavy. Even though my SEs go slower than my original Zaps, they flip much easier than the old ones. Hehe, if it weren't for the proportional steering, my new SEs would be upside down more than they would be upright on all four wheels LOL!

yeah, gotta be the weight. Also, because of the propo throttle, it actually takes a second to go from no to full, not much, but all the drag racers out there will probably take out all the throttle goodies to save weight, or just stick with Standard Zips.

put in a second cell in the bottom of the car for dead weight that might help. too bad the propo has so many problems. the regular Zips w/o spring suspension never flipped on me. but once i added spring suspension and didn't have slicks on the front the friggin thing looked like it was a break dancer

Yeah, just got one too. I'm usually a heavy modder, but there's not much room on the inside for jack. You definately couldn't fit another stock bat.
Mine also flips easy.
Nice design, but a little dissappointing. My old bits and clones and stuff are much faster. The ZZSE can't even begin to compete against dual-celled cars. I don't have any old zips.

Here's my theory.

It's digital proportional. Which means it has an ADA converter to coverts the analog radio signal to digital, and then back to analog again. Digital is all 0s and 1, or IOW a whole series of millions of switches turning off and on. Hence the pulsed motor signal that some have noticed. The faster the ADA coverters processor is, the faster the pulse, and the a more constant signal to the motor.

I believe because of size and cost restraints, the ZZ SE is using a slow ADA converter. They use ADA converters in stuff like CD players, and guitar effects. Back in the 80s when CD players first came out, the speed of the ADA converter determines whether it was 2x or 4x, etc. oversampling. Those were like 4 bit, and 8 bit converters. Nowdays they run like 32 and 64 bit converters, which improves the sound quality, by making it less pulsed, and closer to analog.

So anyways, after mosfeting the H-bridge on the output of these, and seeing a increase in torque, but still seemily being stifled, it's my theory that we need a more powerful ADA converter to smooth out the output, and get any torque out of these.

But that's just a theory.
