some people have said that they handle better with them....they also lower ur car too so u get a 2in 1 effect there...if you want to improve steering alot add another steering spring so u have two...it helps...and you could also add rare earth magnets

plus if you use ultra stiff springs more power will go to the ground on the front wheels

I'm a convert to slot car tune up kit suspension springs.
All my ZZs have springs, as well as my Bit/MS clones.
Handling improves big time for speed-modded cars.
Pen springs tend to be made of steel, so they affect the steering system.
They also are a little large.
The good springs fit the steering knuckles perfectly.
The only thing you do is shorten them for steering play.
This is about the best pic I have of the results:

save your self some time and money and just buy some "magnet wire" from radioshack, then wrapp it around a micro precision screwdriver like anywhere from 7-15 time depending on the gauge and how you like that springyness, and when you're done with the wire you can use it for any other project you want as it is very small, or you can just tear apart a small hobby motor

The problem there is that magnet wire isn't rated for use as a spring, and will sag over time.
Unwind one of those springs sometime, it's different stuff.
IMO It's worth spending a few bucks to get good consistent performance on this one.

ok, i tried the mod and it didn't work, the steering wouldn't turn because of the springs. I then decided to give it up and put it all back together, but wen i did the car doesn't center anymore. Wuts wrong?

ok, so when i added my spring suspension to my BCG, i decided to go ahead and learn the whole suspension system. On the steering mechanism inside the suspension box, there is a little spring that keeps the wheels centered when no direction is pushed on the controller. if you lose this spring, it causes your car not to center out when no direction is pressed on the controller.
I attached a crappy drawing to maybe help you understand what im talking about.
The only way i can think of how to fix this is to bend a wire yourself to match it. Unless you can order that part from somewhere, or worst-case: buy a new car and take it out of there.
Sorry to hear this happened.

Thanks a lot for that link. I found out that the spring was still there, it was just all bent up, so I straigtened it as much as i could but it still doesn't center well, is there anything else that could have happened? Im tryin to add in any details:
I lost the little scew that holds down the front cover for the suspension area.
The centering spring is slightly bent.
The magnet came unglued.
Would any of those things affect the cantering? All I could think of would be the screw, because the magnet might line up with the screw or something. Any help would be appreciated.
