Tyco 4-40 slot car off Ebay ($5.99), but I got the whole car so with tires and springs it was worth it.

Race Night Part II

First up, the Stock Gold ZipZap. 3 almost identical and unevenful passes. 4.32 seconds was all she could muster.

Next up the Stock Eclipse ZipZap. Same boring cruise to a 4.29 second run.

Things got interesting with the Modified 57 Chevy dual cell Drag Zip. Because the tires are pretty hard, and the lanolium being what it is, she had some wheel spin off the line, and I don't think ever hooked up completely on any of the runs. Fast yes. 1.82 seconds. The bar had been lowered, the crowd was getting anxious.

The last of the Zips was an old 3cell Rally Civic, one of my fist mods when Zips were first released. As you can see by the extensive body work being performed, she's been around the track a few times. I don't think it fires on all 3 cells anymore, more like two, but it got up and went, very smoothly, and put in a respectable 1.88 seconds. Not quite enough to best the American muscle of the Chevy, but still a good showing.

(to be continued)

Race Night Part III

When the Red Microsizer Pro 2.2 Turbo Celica rolled up to the line, the anticipation was high, but after a disappointing 2.75, even with the boost on full from the start, it was decided that this little import should stick to show and tell.

Out with the old, and in with the new. The first of two Awesome R/C cars went to the line. Slightly modified with slot car rubber on the rear and a tight fitting Camaro body, flash bulbs were popping like nitro blowback as the tree began to light. Hoppity hop hop out of the blocks, and all the way down the pipe. Even with the rubber on the back, it just couldn't get traction on the lanolium, and in fact, several runs had to be made cause I just couldn't hit the timer gate on the other end. I even tried punching the turbo after half way just to see if it mattered, but nope, it was hopeless. I did manage to bounce through the gate twice, the best being a 1.89 second miracle, almost knocking off the 3cell Civic, but this car had driven me to drink, and I couldn't bear another run.

and finally, the top seeded, crowd favorite, odds on bet to take it all Awesome R/C Supra, with serious slot car rubber all around, and a massively modified rear end, consisting of nothing more than the motor pinion and rear axle drive gear. With the turbo mashed right from the start, I rocketed through the timing gate, the cat and the crowd went wild...only to be crushed when it didn't register. Upon inspection of the timing unit, all was in order...was the car just too fast? A second flawless run proved that either I had B1 bomber stealth paint, or the car was just too quick for the timer. To rectify the situation, I had to put a block of foam in the gate, thinking that the car would hit it, and the large movement of the block would trip the timer.

(stay tuned...)

Race Night Part IV

Off the line and into a kitchen table leg was what happened next, and then a missed gate, and then interfence from an overzealous feline, and then half way through what I though was THE run, something let loose inside and the motor screamed as the car rolled to a stop. YIKES, I blew it up for sure! Fortunately, the motor just shifted, and after a quick trip to the pits, everything was in working order again. 1.52 seconds at 4.5MPH was the winning time. I was pretty pleased as the car never had enough time to wind out on such a short strip. I really want to see this thing go balls out, but alas my kitchen isn't big enough.

Next week, some Circuit Racing! Can't wait to see how that Chevy is gonna get through the hairpin.

um...no skyline, but if you're referring to the gold Civic, it's pretty much stock.
