I just tried the resistor jump and got no difference noticed. Also MicroAmps warned that it could cause the board to fail.
I just did the 2 cell mod and the difference is HUGE. The car is a rocket. the SE battery pack can be cut into a ZZ chassis in the old battery's position with a dremel.
Make sure you charge with 3 C-cells and a voltmeter to watch for peak, then disconnect.
Peak charging even a single cell car gives awesome run times. My 200mAh battery ran fast (king 4.2) for 34 minutes recently with a 55 minute trickle charge.
Enjoy,
Brett

How do you charg when you put a 2 cell in? I still don't understand how you would do that. And how did you wire your 2nd cell?

To charge, duct tape 3 c cells + to -, + to - like putting them in a flashlight. Solder on red (+) and black wires and hotmelt-glue the wires to the battery for a bit of strain relief.
Solder a clip onto the ends of the wire and clip these onto wires you ran out from the receiver board to, say, behind the bumper(Keep + and - clearly marked, red= plus, black negative)
For a dual cell, I cut in a Zip Zaps SE car's dual cell, but knowing you're in Canada and Radio Shack hasn't released these, you can use two normal cells in series: I soldered the original spring-clip wires to mine (black to negative on one cell, jumper wire from positive of the one cell to negative of the second cell, red to the positive on the second cell. (Careful! Solder it quick and wear safety glasses: little batteries can pop from the heat). I used tiny dabs of hot melt to fix everything into the chassis.
With two cells, you may need to put the board in upside-down & hot-melt tack it.
