Weekend Discoveries
So, I've been ordering parts off the Internet, and also picked up a new Microsizer Pro at TRU this weekend. I love that turbo button!!!! Anyways, The new MS Pro has a Nissan Skyline body. Is it just me, or is there quite a large difference in the performance of different bodies? I tried a mess of various bodies on the car, after upgrading the motor to a 3.8 Perfection, and had some flip over problems, especially with my Toyota bB body. It seems like the Skyline body hugs the family room carpet better than the other bodies. Is it the lower center of gravity offered by the Skyline body, or am I just imaging it? Are there other bodies to look for in body kits, which would offer as good or better performance than the Skyline?
Also, I had some initial problems running the 3.8 motor. The gears sounded kind of noisy, and I didn't get the speed I was expecting. So I fiddled around with the motor position, pressing it down into the chasis. It's as if the small change in motor position helped to mess the gears better. The car got noticeably quieter and smoother running, and the speed of the car increased dramatically. I may just have to revisit a few of my clones, and see if a little motor repositioning will give them a speed boost.
Last, but not least, I hit Wal-Mart for another Motorworks, and found a really weird one. I’ve never seen this body style in a Motorworks before. The chasis is odd in that both wheels are the same size, and the wheels are further apart than a normal Bit or Motorworks. It’s almost the same size as a Zip Zap. I have no idea what kind of battery is in it, as it isn’t labeled. There’s no LED light either, like a normal Motorworks. The body is actually more detailed than most Motorworks, so a new paint job could make it pretty spiffy looking.

Dam my Walmart store! They don't carry those sweet cars, but they do have these other ones... They are Mini Coopers, about the size of a ZZ, and the other ones are about an inch long or so, and they are called pen racers or something.

Yes Buzzbait you are right, there are some bodies that handle heaps better than others. The Skylines do handle well but you cant beat the BitChar-g Nissan 350Z. It poos all over my other shells, and I dont really know why. I just know when I get sick of my cars flipping and sliding all over the place I go back to the 350Z and it is the best by far. The only minor problem I find is that the wedge shape is easier to get stuck under the fridge!!
Re the gear noise, try some Tamiya ceramic grease on the gears and axels. It quiets them down and allows the power to got thru to the wheels rather than be used up as noise or vibration. And yes, minor motor adjustments do make a considerable difference to the setup. Also try 'shimming' the motor back a touch with a layer of paper. It increases the gap between the motor and the idler just a bit, again, this makes things smoother.
Hope this helps

Buzzbait, any way you can give me the measurements on the Motorworks car? I guess what I need is the wheelbase from axle to axle and how wide? I am working on a mod using some slotcar bodies from the 70's. Also doesw that car have a stand alone charger?

The distance, from center of front axle to center of rear axle is 1.375". The width of the chassis is .9375". And yes, the car comes with the awesome "dual cell capable if you need it" battery charger.
