I think the reason is at some point during the inspection of the products. At end of the production line, they noticed there are problems with marks on the paints and stickers.. To provent this decals from being marked up or what ever the place a small film on the locations of the most chance marks might happen. so during the first runs they might not have had any film, but later they added the film for protection.

I got my Castrol Supra Body for my Booster Chassis and the Body didn't have any protective film. I also had to apply the decals as it came with a seperate decal sheet. The hood decal, and the roof decal where already factory applied.
Other than that its a sweet body. Goes well with my booster chassis fitted with a 3.8 and soft compound tires
