Nicely done ph2t.

Once upon a time there was a UK website, Mike's Mods (wonder what happened to him). But he had a an 'Ultimate LED' kit that had blinking signals lights (when you press left or right, they blink) and brake lights (when you press reverse, the brake lights come on)...He also had the Knight Rider LED kit.

wordlyfe: sorry dude but this kicks arse over a silly little 2f2f wannabe mod.

hulkster, thanks man. I know about this mod from the bit-Charg uk site but the mod is expensive (20 pounds before shipping!!) and it doesn't sit in the grill but up in the window... I know I'm being a bloody puritan about it but hey, that's just me.....

You can get some video of the mod from this link

Wow, How did you do that marble-like finish on the skyline?

Hey Prof. Farnswort, that looks great. I'm using a CMOS 4017 chip as well. I noticed that the chip is glued under the shell and then leading off to the side of the picture. How did you do the rest of the circuit? Using a TLC555 timer? Did you use any diodes to isloate the up/down stages from each other? My breadboard prototype worked but the SMD version of the 4017 I have needs the diodes to isolate the doubled up outputs.....

Did you get this going standalone on the car fully functional? Or is it just in the shell and not moving?

Thanks,

ph2t.

@ ph2t
Till now i use a ne555 timer. But it's to big to put in the car.
I want to keep it as small as i can so there are no diodes.
But you can see a differece between the circuit with and without diodes. Without diodes the leds that are connected to two channels are not so bright as the others.

When the timer circuit is small enough the car is full functional.
Maybe i try a flip flop circuit with two smd transistors.

@MicroSpeed
It's difficult to explain.
Here you can see:

It's a german page but there are pictures, too.

Hey Prof, thanks for the feedback man. Could you please review the thread I have at Ausmicro.com about this project. You can see it here: http://www.ausmicro.com/topic.asp?TO...+%2D+Technical

I've managed to fit all the circuitry (using SMD of course ) on one pcb that I've etched by hand. I'm looking at a quad 2 input OR gate package instead of diodes for the 4 middle LEDS to be able to isolate the two (left/right) channels.

How do you power yours? If you're using the NE555 you need a minimum of 6V yes? I'm using the TLC555 (cmos version) that runs at 3V. My pcb includes a 1.2 -> 5V DCDC convertor circuit and I run it off the car's battery.

There are some photos on the ausmicro thread.

Cheers,

ph2t.

That sounds good with the pcb.
The NE555 needs between 4,5v and 18v.
It's a good idea to use a TLC555.
I will try this.

I want to build a convertor, too.

Here is the video as a gif.

There you can see the problem with the 4 middle LEDS.

Yes I see the problem. Hopefully using the OR gate I will have the 4 middle LEDS at the same voltage as the side ones.

Checkout this THREAD for information regarding DCDC convertors. All you will need to know about them and where to get them for free are detailed in that thread.

Here are some pics of the PCB I've designed. The dimensions are the same as the normal RX pcb in these cars.

This one shows the copper tracks on the pcb and includes to 4017 decade counter on it.

This picture shows the TLC555, CMOS 4017, NCP1402 (DCDC convertor) and other passive components added to the board so far......

Hey Namuna... as far as the "ultimate LED kit" from Mike stands the site is still there but stagnant. Here's a link to a good one ( old, but cool stuff) and a pic of a wired celica.
Mostly japanese, but I figured out alot of anyway)
