Talking Kidriffic 4x4 development thread.

You know guys i've been thinking. Evreyone made a fuss about want a 4x4 bit now it here. I'm sure you've all heard about the Kidriffic 4x4 TRU (toys r us) . And not that many people have got around to getting one. The usually cost about 12.99. I wanted to start this thread because. The other 3 4x4 threads just kinda died and i don't wanna let this one die. And i'm considering making a website all about these kidriffic 4x4. I want this to ge big engough so that gys will try and make different motors, suspension, gears, and stuff like that. I am also gonna make a small offroad course. i'll post pics soon. But most of all this thread is to keep evreyone informed on the little trucks and my numer one goal is to get these cars there on thread on TINYRC.COM If any one overseas want to try one of these cars i can pick up some and mail them

My Kidriffic 4X4 is a love/hate relationship. After doing a tri-cell mod on it, and using a peak charger to charge the bats, I’m very happy with the power and run times. It’s almost too fast to control, and 30 minute run times are a piece of cake.

My problem is the tank steering. I just don’t like tank style steering. When you’ve got as much power under the hood as I do, it’s nearly impossible to press both forward buttons and have the truck actually move straight forward from a standing position. It usually wants to move sideways, just because it’s so hard to press both forward buttons at the exact same time. That drives me crazy. The truck is also so powerful that trying to start moving causes the vehicle to flip right onto its back. That’s a pain, but could be cured by going from three cells back to a dual cell.

So I’m now working on a new monster truck, using a Micro Blast body, with motor driven front steering. I’ve got lego wheels on it right now, and have done a dual cell conversion. The results are much better than of my previous rug runner attempts with Bits and Motorworks cars. The steering is PERFECT and completely controllable.

I just have to work on the little things now. The gearing needs to be revamped, as it uses torqueless Kit Racer gearing for the rear axle. That’s bad for an offroad monster truck. I’d also like to convert the chassis over to using a hot swap bay for the rear motor. As it stands now, the motor is soldered in. If I get the time, I’m also going to make new charging contacts, so it has an input for a standard DC converter style jack. I’ll be able to plug the truck directly into a 300mAH wall jack DC converter. I’ve got a nicely detailed plastic Hummer body standing by. The body size is perfect for the chassis. I just need to add some risers to the chassis, so the body clears the wheels. I have a working prototype now, and might have the little perks done by the end of the weekend.

I went into Rite-Aid drugs last night, and picked up a large die cast pullback pickup truck. It’s large, like 1/43 scale, but has the perfect wheels and tires for a monster truck. Much nicer looking than rug runner wheels. Once the prototype stage is over, the final truck will have these wheels. It’s gonna’ kick some serious butt.

Does anybody have any solid opinions on the Wild Char-G? I’m thinking about getting one, but have never read a good description of its construction and capabilities.

my 4x4 is probably my favorite car
its so strong and the speed is fairly good
but their are so many bodies to put on it unlike bits
I like the tank steering on the otherhand
its just different and makes it fun to drive
any one have any mods for these other then adding another cell as I have already done it.

I've got one of these trucks, and I love it. It is fairly fast and can climb steep grades. This truck probably has one of the best bang-for-the-buck ratios on the micro RC market. Every collecter should own one.

well

Just to be cool i would go with the same color of your body or just plain o black And i was thinking the same thing about a roll bar or some sort of thing but i made a wheelie bar and mounted high so if 'm going up a steep incline it will flip back and the wheelie bar wheel catch and finish up the incline. And here are some pics of my car. (TRUCK)

I ment what color to paint the body of the pickup
the rollbar will probably be silver/stainless steel
I covered the body in electrical tape last night and found that black looks good

I'm probably gonna get a powerbrute when they become available. I'm not too worried about true 4WD, because I don't think you really need it when they're this small.

yeah

I am pretty sure with a little hacking they should fit well. You should also try to put alot of weight on the front end and a little on the rear to climb really steep stuff.
