re: tired of flipping on high speed turns?
Here's what I did, think its been done before, but what can I say? I'm proud of my last trip to the hardware store. I have two dual cell racers (shens) that I widened the footprint of the rear wheels on. Instead of doubling up two stock wheels on each side of the rear axel-- I glued up one car with some aluminum collars I found, and the other with some threaded brass caps that matched the diameter of the stock wheels. I simply left the stock wheels alone and glued these 'extensions' onto them with super glue gel.
Here's where I did sometin nifty, I then got some surgical type tubing and cut new fatty tires from it and stretched over my new widetrack wheelsets. Then I got some 100% black silicone and coated those new 'tubing-tires' . By simply placing the fully charged car upside down, I applied the silicone as I drove the rear axel by the cars own power. With the silicone caked onto the 'tubing-tires' I then smoothed it all out with a piece of mylar as I spun the wheels ,once again, with the car's power. get the mylar wet first so the silicone doesn't stick to it though.
Anyway, my dual cell racers stick to the course now (silicone tires) and don't flip anymore on high speed turns due to the widened rear wheelset. Also because my batteries are internal, and the fact that I used metal hardware for the wheel extensions--these cars have a very low center of gravity. I'll try and attach a picture but don't laugh at my paint jobs if it shows up! --and I know you guys are going to tell me, 'hay that's not a mitsubishi!' or 'hay that's not a toyota!' but who cares, those were the only stickers I had--dont have a clue what body style I have.
Cheers!

hehe they're skylines... but i must say.. that's NICE! great idea, and good work on making new wheels! so many people have been after wider metal wheels...
one thing could be... if you made the wheels a little smaller (stick out less from the side of the body), then you could even mold some big fender flares to cover them up... i noticed u got puttied bodykit and side skirts there... give it a shot!
great work!

heh, my mods are all kinda poor... mostly cosmetic... except lowering Does drop the center of gravity a bit.... did fullsize, but dont have a camera around to catch it... here's my bit
*yay*!! no fender gap!

that is low... looks good man! I need all the room I can afford b/w the body and the chassis for the racing equipment that's under the hood. I had to put my potentiometers outside the shell (white thingies) just to fit it on after the dual batt mods. So I just added my own shrouds to keep these sucka's on the ground during a race
Peace out Pie!

That wide wheelset got me thinkin' so I made a new KIT racer rear using the spacer wheels and an unused drive gear to get a very wide spacing for my rear wheels.
My fronts are also KIT Racer wheels with the spacers on them so they are already wider than stock.
I just made them so I'll let you know if they help when the cyanoacrylate cures.
(super glue)
Great thread BTW!
I was just going on in another thread about how suspension springs help with high speed handling too, so the wide tires in combo might be the sure fix for the car flippin' blues!

thx strider! ya this thread is all about pics, show us what you end up with.
the other thing about using some metal for the wheel extensions--especially with the heavier brass caps I used on one of me cars, is that even after you let off the gas, the car continues coasting longer (probably more angular momentum?-failed physics) instead of a dead stop with lighter all plastic set up. Nice for speed control, but dual batt cars simply need real estate to go full tilt, to drive anything technical you more or less have to do Actofgod's potentiometer mod to detune them.
Anyway, in case you want to know--my cars, if they have the space can go full speed and handle a turn without spinning out and there is definitely no more flipping--the weight of the metal wheels with the traction of the 100% silicone tire coating keeps the back end behind the car and on the ground--just my take on the whole thing. In the front end I have the rcmod springs, and 3 steering return springs on the little peg.--that was the best mod I did--just for the dual batt cars. With clean rear tires I can get the car going backwards then jam it forward and ride a wheelie--with both batteries inside the chassis.

heh thanks.. im planning on NOT using that body once my orders come in, cuz the thing's cracked in 5 places... 2 in the back, 2 in the front fenders, and one BIG one on the door... happened about a week ago, so those pix dun really show it.. i just dont want my favorite body splitting apart... =P
wooo hey strider's back once in a while//
i heard that a LOT of people have really big problems with the suspension springs... cuz the seem to attract the steering magnet.. i supposed with triple springs, you have no problem whatsoever, but i dun got any spares... =(
and whoa man.. u pack all that crap into a bit?! skills.......!! im still scared to do a dual cell... haha
oh yeah, and... if you want wide, but less extreme, (and also less effective) rims, you should try pullback rims... they're wider, but not quite as good as those huge ones.. but they're 5-spokes! im getting 5 of them in a weeks time, and you can be hella sure im going to be tearing them up when im supposed to be studying.. ^__^ but no digicam..
1 q tho... how did you coat the tires with silicone...? the stock tires are plenty sticky on pullbacks.... so is silicone actually softer..? whoops.. im an idiot... but.. where did you get the silicone...? in ready-to-coat form?

Here's a shot of just the rear.
It may be confusing, let me explain...
The green gear is the drive gear (a Zip Zaps 9.86:1), the blue one is just a spacer.
It didn't occur to me until afterward that I could have had a dual gearset rear if I had just mounted the gear the other way.
DOH!!!

I wish I had the wide tires that you do, but I don't so I tried for simply a wider stance.

As expected, when installed on a dual cell (this car isn't) it's extremely stable!
My test car was my dual cell Silver Precious Honda.
It already has suspension springs and dual steering return springs, and with the addition of this wide rear, it's very stable now at speed when turning!
This car is also a precious, but i forget the car the body came from.
