I can report that after this weekend of driving, the amount of "gunk" collected in the gears is very minor. There was some, but to be honest not much more than is normally there after extended driving. It only took a few swipes with my cleaning brush to remove the debris. Disassembly was not required (but I did remove the axle to check for dirt.)
The Prolix is still on the gears, and the amount of noise generated is still much less than before.
I think the key here is to use the slightest amount. I used a paper clip, by placing one drop on the end and then applying. I then used the paper clip to work it into the teeth.
It's important to note that I waited a while for the lube to "set" before I ran the car.
BTW, this test setup was my yellow Skyline. (MS PRO booster chassis, 12:1 gears, Perfection 3.8, Bit Char-G red tires.) The tested surface is a hardwood floor (that should probably be mopped... heh...)
