As far as I can tell, boost is normal speed, non-boost is about half-speed. It's actually nice though...like when you want to drive on some slick surface, and full speed is too fast, you can switch to half speed and still have fun. Half speed is also fun for challenges like simulated parking etc.

There is a switch on the controller to have it in constant boost mode, selectable boost mode, (Button on right shoulder of controller) or traditional Bit control mode. (Necessary to control 1-speed bits) I don't have any problem with the range on mine. It's about 15 feet.

It should be said that the 4 channels do not include the new, American channel of 49mhz. It has 27, (American) 35, 45, and 57.

I really like it and would suggest anyone to go this route and buy just the cars for 20 bucks instead of the whole set for $30-40.
