Less torque?! Try like 1/25th as much torque. Consider that standard gears are like 9.something to 1 ratio. Flipping the idler onto the motor and taking out the pinion would reduce the ratio to like 1.something to 1. Basically your motor would be trying to turn your wheels at 20000 rpms or whatever, which is a theoretical speed far beyond what is possible.
