I didn't need the other tools. If you don't have them then, get that kit and the other Radio Shack kit with the sponge. I guess you can use a cheap sponge from Wal-mart or something.

im sure that 15$ for a complete soldering kit is pretty good. the sponge doesnt matter where it is from as long as it is wet and somewhat smooth. also the quality of solder matters somewhat. and the
most important thing is to keep the tip clean and smooth(which is what the sponge is for) and to cover both connections with solder first. once you do that you pretty much set them in the position you want and bring the heat in until they melt a little and let go and hold it for 3seconds.
i imagine most beginners would just try to drop a glob onto the ends and hope they dont get any wherever they dont want it. i did that at first.
