Just vaccuum the living daylights out of the track. Use a vaccuum like a shop vac. Anything with a beater bar will dig a hole if you stop even for a second if you aren't careful. If you are going to put anything on the track just mist it with water then let it set for a short while then vaccuum it. If the humidity in your apartment is 50-60% you will probably be OK. Drier than that and you wil probably have to mist it once in a while.
