duwain, thanks. That "negative camber" on the older one has me thinking more lego set than RC car.

In some ways the new one is more upgradeable. I like the motor set with the separate pinion gears. This alone is way better than fussing with the brass pinions on the older upgrade sets. Also makes it way easier to slip a bearing case on the motor too.
One of my biggest question is the steering servo. I have seen posts saying it is improved. I'd like to know what all is improved? How tight? More responsive? It already look's like a better car "out of the box", with a few welcome additions "down the road" so to speak.
