I was using two cells from old microsizers. I think you can purchase them through the tinyrc store.
As far as overheating goes i think i went more than overheating,, i checked all the wires and they were all connected correctly. I did smell something burning though so im guessing i fried something. I transplanted a new superslick pcb and dropped one cell(down to 4) it still has lots of power but just doesnt run as long,, still great fun,, we will see how long it holds up. I may change to a fully proportional iwaver pcb later on,, i think it can handle more voltage as well.
Lego probably makes some less agressive tires but i like these,, they have great grip on all surfaces. you have to remember that lego made two different hardnesses of this same tire,, you need the sticky ones otherwise they arent any good on hard surfaces.
These tires work awsome on carpet, hardwood floors, lenolium, dirty, cement... all around they are just awsome. I have since widened the rear wheels alot and the front a bit as well.. much better cornering now and much more stable.
