When you've got the car flipped over and running, there's no real load against the motor to spin the wheels, so that's not necessarily a good test to validate your batteries.
If you've got a voltmeter, I'd suggest charging up the batteries and then individually checking the voltage on all of them.
Using my quick charger, after a full charge my batts come out to about 1.33v to 1.36v (NiMH batteries). See what kind of numbers you have.
