Grease is a pretty bad idea for most applications on these bearings since they are "open" bearings. The grease gives dirt, hair and other boogers a place to collect in the bearing housing, causing excess friction and wear.

The size bearings the XMods use are considered an "instrumentation" size bearing in the trade. Taking some advice from a mechanical engineer friend who has worked for over 30 years designing precision machienery for the automotive/ aircraft industries, he recommended cleaning the bearings in a solvent to remove any oil/grease from the bearings and housing (brake fluid or another light solvent mentioned above works great ). Once the bearings are clean and completely dry, use just enough of a fine oil based (TriFlow or Slick 50 mentioned above works great ) lubricant to just "wet" the bearings - just about a drop. Place the bearings on a paper towel and let them sit outside in the sunlight, or someplace where the temp will reach in the 80-90 degree F range for an hour or so. This will allow the bearings to shed any excess oil while providing enough micro-lubrication for them to function efficiently. Without anything "wet" to cling to, most dirt and other nasties wont stick to the bearings - the tiny amout of air that the bearings displace as they spin will actually help prevent this stuff from even getting to them. Unless of course you run them through dirt or water directly.
Ive managed to keep my stock RS bearings in decent shape with minimal maintenance by following his advice.
When the sealed bearings are available, maintenance should be even less. Cant wait for those!
