replacing the antenna seriously isn't that hard. Mine is a 27mhz. Just find a long thin wire. I have a solid core wire that is about a 32 guage and it is a foot and a half long. I just resoldered this in place of the the other. If you don't want to solder anything you can just tie it to the stock one (but you'll have to stip the stock one so that the metal touches). It will get better results if replacing the stock one, but any length increase helps, as well as the travelling medium for the signal (Copper, aluminum, gold, etc).
