To charge, duct tape 3 c cells + to -, + to - like putting them in a flashlight. Solder on red (+) and black wires and hotmelt-glue the wires to the battery for a bit of strain relief.

Solder a clip onto the ends of the wire and clip these onto wires you ran out from the receiver board to, say, behind the bumper(Keep + and - clearly marked, red= plus, black negative)

For a dual cell, I cut in a Zip Zaps SE car's dual cell, but knowing you're in Canada and Radio Shack hasn't released these, you can use two normal cells in series: I soldered the original spring-clip wires to mine (black to negative on one cell, jumper wire from positive of the one cell to negative of the second cell, red to the positive on the second cell. (Careful! Solder it quick and wear safety glasses: little batteries can pop from the heat). I used tiny dabs of hot melt to fix everything into the chassis.

With two cells, you may need to put the board in upside-down & hot-melt tack it.
