It is not that hard. You just need to figure out how mutch voltage each light will require.
For example:
If you have a 100 bulb string of lights then each bulb will need 1.2 volts.
120 Volts / 100 bulbs = 1.2 volts per bulb
And if you want to use a 9 volt battery to power your lights then you will need 8 bulbs
9 volts battery / 1.2 volts per bulb = 7.5 bulbs (8 bulbs to be used)
(Round up to the nearest whole bulb, that way you do not have to worry about the bulbs overheating.)
So if you want to use a 9 volt to power your lights you will need a 9 volt clip to connect the 8 bulbs to the battery.
