Leaving your body shell off the car makes it faster for free.

I suggest maybe go to a hobby store and find some lexan body shells. Just go and ask the guy to show you Lexan HO Scale Slotcar Bodies.

they're clear, very light, and fun to work with. Not only that, they're VERY cheap compared to the Microsizers/Char-G/LXX body sets. My nissan R390 Shell cost me $0.70.

Also get some of that velcro that has a self-adhesive backing. I put velcro on the chassis and inside the slotcar body to hold it together.

So now you have a clear shell to work with. you paint it on the inside using flat (not glossy) paint. There's some paints that are made specifically for painting lexan, but I have had okay luck with testors model paints. It can chip off the inside if you hit something hard, but other than that, it's fine. This gives you a few things:

1) A very lightweight body, which means more speed

2) A clear shell that you can paint, which means you can do cool designs on the car and make your own cool, custom street racer paintjob

3) If you find a slotcar body that is tall enough inside, you can easily cut it out so that it's so low it almost scrapes the ground.

The downside of the slotcar body is that it's very flexible, and won't protect the car if you crash into something very hard, or fall off a desk.
