Well, I've never used #22 enamled wire, but if you're talking about different options of wire to increase motor performance, then it gos something like this; copper plated, solid copper, silver and then gold. Gold being the best. It has the least amount of resistance. I use solid copper. Gold is somewhat expensive.

Also, if I can offer some more advice about lowering resistance: The contacts that connect to the motor can be trimmed and the wire can be resoldered closer to the motor. It will make it easier for motor placement too, since you wont have as much resistance between the original wire and the motor. It's almost the same as hard wiring, but this way you can change out motors without resoldering.
