I agree on the ABC models. I have the DTM-sp and the X4 and a Mini-X.
The ABC models are without a doubt the best and fastest 1/24 cars around. Nothing can touch them imho.

They are dirt cheap.
You can also measure the holes in the diff-gear. This should give you an indication of their size.

Yeah, that's the way i did it. I used a (very cheap) nylon E string for acoustic guitar as a fiber. This gives the best result. Much better than fishing wire due to the purety of the guitar string....
