I'm certainly no expert. I use photoshop 6 and paint shop pro (a little) If I want to do 3D images I use lightwave and bryce.
My advice would be to go with photoshop, it's a great piece of software...

Sort of, the two 4x4 sections are hinged so they close to make two 2x4 boxes.
