Accelerating with low gear ratios?
I have a 3.8 with a dual cell. Using the 8.25:1 gears with a 7 tooth pinion gears (7.07:1) still isn't fast enough for me. I'm planning to do a K.I.T. racer axle mod, but I'm afraid it will affect my acceleration a lot. How far will it take to accelerate with these gears?

Tried 12.1? I heard some ppl got better acceleration with this gear ratio (also less chance of burn out compare to 8.25:1)

well depending on the power of your car...
a 3.8 MAY not run the kit gear fast for acceleration.. but then again, it's awlays worth a try... you got a dual cell rite? heh, fire up that 3.xx:1 gear... that'll make ur RX-7 tear ass down straights.. |
Where'd you get your 3.8? I have a pair of them and they're slugs. I can put a high torque'ing 3.0 or 3.2 in there and run circles around both of my 3.8's. I usually go with a high torque decent rpm (3.0-3.2) motor with high gears. If I use 3.8's, I use Low Low gears because I'll get smoked on the starting line and I never make up the time. I still never make it up.
Try this: Use an R-spec with your dual cell and a standard pinion. That would be a nice combo. Or get a Darkside 3.4 with a high gearset and standard pinion. My 7 tooth pinion took away alot of torque. High rpms are great, but if you don't have any POWER as in torque, you can't even get your rpms up there. If you use multi-cells, your 3.0 is really running like 40,000 rpm (or even more) and has much more power than a standard. Do a 3 cell mod. I did that on a clone Impreza one time. It was so freakin fast, man! Just put 2 of the cells in the rear deck lengthwise. Just ideas. |
yep, the 7 tooth eats torque... but gets the top speed pretty fast... my 2.6 rapes my 3.0...

I'm talking Clone motors. Name brand 3.0's are pretty doggie. Clones are torque'ie.
