Torque and the many motors in the world.
 

So what I've been wondering, and everyone else seems to be wondering, are the merits of different engines over each other. Tomy, clone, lxx, dks, tinyrc, etc. Obviously there's a lot more going on than just some number-point-number, which seems to be getting meaningless and fabricated by a lot of the lamer brands. But even with tinyrc or dks brands that are reliable, I'm curious about the differences in torque and such.
The japan perfection 3.8 from toyeast says it has 38k rpms and 35 newton per meter of torque. I'm looking around the net trying to find explanations of how torque is measured, but wondering if info like that might start becoming more prevalent. It'd be interesting to see comparisons of more than just maximum possible rpms on these motors.
One of these days I'll probably order the tinyrc R and a DKS motor and compare them to the 3.8 I have coming, but that's going to be subjective and based on what car and gearing I have. Numbers don't tell the whole story either, but it'd be interesting to be able to compare newtons ...

I'm currently working through some stats for the motors I currently have (you can check the motor power usage tests link in my sig).

I'll be doing more tests for more numbers (hopefully tonight or this weekend) to get more significant answers.

So far though, you can at least get an idea of the efficiency of the motors.

A "Newton meter" is a one newton of force one meter from the rotor. It is entirley possible to calculate the force (In Newtons) at the wheels using your gear ratios. I just don't know how:)

I just got my Lxx Auto Modelista w/ J.Perf. 3.8 (along w/ the 150ma batts etc.) delivered this morning from ToysEast and haven't had a chance to see how it performs other than throwing it in the Lxx in place of the stock 3.0. (that sucked...) also take a good look at your gears. I'm swapping the Lxx out due to very sloppy play and binding. A good way to burn something up is to BOOST it then BIND it I imagine. By the way I live in the Bay Area and have been ordering from ToyEast a little while and very surprised not mentioned more. Usually they have things in stock noone else has and for ten bucks cheaper. I got their last 4- ch controller a few days ago for only $17.

I bet I regret saying that next time I'm shopping.:rolleyes:
