Voltage boosted Bit-G Controller

Had an idea on how to increase the controller range on your Bit.

For a while now I've been lurking around these forums and been amazed at the ideas by everyone. It's been pretty much confirmed that the range of the Bit-G is determined by the power of the transmitter. There has been discussions on how some clone controllers have better range because they are fitted with 3*AA cells (@4.5V) vs. 2*AA cells (@3V)

If there was a way to be able to boost the transmitter power one should be able to then get awsome range.

The immediate idea that came to mind was to up the voltage on the transmitter to say, 4.5V or 6V. The would power the whole transmitter and theoretically increase range. BUT I have heard from other musings on this forum that the TX/RX chipset used can only take about 3-4V. Does anyone know this for sure? I'd rather have some more detail before I start blowing up my controllers.

Thanks to the guys @ QFM for providing the TX controller schematic, from this one "could" isolate the controller circuitry from the transmitter circuitry and ONLY increase the voltage of the transmitter. This way you could protect the controller circuitry AND increase the transmitter power.

Another way would be to build an RF amp and hook it up inline with the transmitter to provide even more power.

I guess the goal would be to have the range of your Bit-G set to how far you can see before your Bit-G becomes an ant on the horizon.

Your thoughts guys, has anyone tried anything like this yet?

i'll be checking back to hear your results. this sounds right in theory to me. be sure to post pics and a how-to when you're done. later

Hey PH2t,
It certainly is possible to massively increase the range of any BCG controller. You can use a 9V battery, but you have to protect the input to the chip that cannot take any more than 5V. This can be done with a zener and capacitor or a 7805 reg. Range with an unmodded aerial is about 200 feet. If aerial is modded the inductor in series with the aerial should be reduced to about half.
I spend most of my online time in the forums at AUSMICRO.com.
PM me there if you like.

I really like this idea, but what would you suggest for a 4-band controller? the 9V wont work cause the AA's are located on either side of the controller...... :(

Swavey,

if you can get me a schematic diagram of the circuit for the 4-band controler I will happiliy investigate and show you how it could be done.

I dont know where to find specs for it.... If someone could look for me it would be much apreciated.

I really like this controller, but it has SERIOUS range problems compaired to the other bit controllers....

ph2t; first off Welcome the boards! Second, this is some really
Great Stuff... this is a mod I think that alot of people will find to very usefull.
Keep us updated to your progress! :D

I HAVE HAD A ZIPZAP WITH 4.5V GOING THROUGH THE TRANSMITTER AND IT DOUBLED THE RANGE. in conjunction with a bigger antenna it went from 6foot to about 30foot. another benefit of this would be the ability to charge a dual battery car from your controller.

i also have an nkok micro sea explorer boat that has a 27mhz controller that gets 50+ feet. it is because it has a 9v in it and a separate 6v charging pad that i use for my dual battery cars. maybe ill convince my friend to wire up a 9v into a clone controller.

This site has information about a high voltage transmitter mod that may be similar to micro_Amps earlier post. Very detailed and seems knowledgable to an average Joe like me.
