Accord Type-R
 

This is my first paint job so bear with me. I used normal Testors acrylic paints and regular paint brushes. the paint isn't very even, how do I make it even? the body was a clear accord that you get in a body pack. I painted the colors of my dad's Mini Cooper S (Chili Red with a White roof and White hood stripes). Right now I just have the front end done. What do you think (considering this my first paint job)?

P.S.-Notice how the front emblem is panited red (if you can see it):D

tape it off if you didn't already try that

yep, go with silent bob... tape it so that you can just swab on the paint without worrying about lines, and when the paint dries a little just pull the tape off...

Well it's paint, at least you tried and now u hve more experience. I would strip it off though ( with foaming oven cleaner ) and tape off carefully, this is a crucial step most people would speed through. thendo thin layers of primer, and the paint. Blow on the bubbles in the paint job to remove them, and god luck fellow bit enthusiest!:D

I tried using tape, but it wouldn't stick right on the curved hood, so the paint would seep under the tape and onto the body............was I using the wrong tape (masking tape)?

What is primer and where can I get it? (I don't paint things)

Primer is just your base coat. Usually a grey color and you can find it at any paint store, home depot, lowes, LHS or craft store. You only need a small bottle.

Before you tape it, paint it or anything, wipe it down with some Mineral Spirits, Denatured Alcohol, or at least wash with dish detergent. The key is to remove all greases. There is an oily residue left from the molding process, and then your fingerprints from handling it.

If your tape still don't stick, then yes, definately get better tape. The Pactra stuff they sell at hobby stores is like a thin film, so you don't get build up around the edges, and it flexes around curves.

Also I always rub the tape down with the back of my finger nail, just to make sure it's on good.

Thanx guys. I removed all of the original paint with a paint remover and going out to buy some primer and I'll start all over and hopefully make a better looking car that has the paint quality of my dad's Mini Cooper S and the same colors.Thanx all of you :D

Good job guys! Way to come through for the newbie! And I learned some new stuff too, like the thin hobby tape, and de-greasing the car. Keep up the good work and support, and soon there might be a micro rc political party, or not. LOL!:D

Do I need a special type of primer that should only be used on plastic? and does the color of the primer matter?:confused:

no and no

just buy a can of spray paint style primer. hold can 6-8 inches from the car and spray in even coats. (have your dad show you if you don't already know). it does take a bit of skill to spray perfectly. oh, before you spray...make sure you use tape over the windows. I personally suggest using blue painters tape as it holds well, but doesn't leave a gooey mess when you pull it off. Also, it is easily removable. wish you well
