is this the same as the dtm?

DONT GET ONE!!!! I got one and returned it, because it is slow (without the optional 7.2V battery pack), my Mini-Z beats it easily. Also the chassis is a little different, and the motor mount is all plastic. But if you like to cruize around your house slowly then go ahead! :cool:

If it came with the 130 motor, then that's the reason why it's slow. Put a 180 w/ 6 cells, now you're talkin. From my experience, the 130's that come with the 1/24's have no power whatsoever. The 180 on the other hand is a world of difference. Damzer knows what I mean.

I personally own a Micro rs4, a Mini-z, and a Rocket Racer and I like the Rocket Racer best of all. The Micro RS4 is really too large for my basement but handles great. The stock Mini-z I have is great but the handling is a little erratic on the slippery surface that I run on. The Rocket Racer works the best out of them all for me personally. For me the precise handling (once you adjust the steering to your taste) out of the box makes the Rocket Racer an excellent platform to run. I can see that it would not take much to improve the performance of this car. A 180 motor, a 7.2 V pack should do it. Again, this car may not suit everyone as well as it does me, but that's why there's many other choices out there.

With the 7.2v pack. it is fast but controllable. Switch to foam rears and tape the battery pack all the way back against the rear uprights. This will aid in traction and detract from steering.

After several runs, I would say that it is just slightly below par versus the DTM. But a lot of bang for the buck, considering the
electronics package that comes with it. I know, I put about $140 in the DTM electric package alone. You can get the whole DRP for that!!

This is a good entry level package that will get you hooked and will be a good club racer. Just the right speed in 4 cell mode for the beginner and with the ability to go to 7.2v for the advanced racers. Wish my area could support 2-3 classes of racing but it is hard here to keep even 1 class going.

Also think of it as a stepping stone. Get the radio and electronics package, and the pre-painted bodies--then transfer them to a DTM chassis when you want more. The DTM outperforms the DPR in handling and speed.

After owning a DTM SP with 7cells it's hard to go back to anything with less aka Mini-Z.

I had not seen this car until I got the current issue of RC action yesterday. BOY, I was PISSED!! What a CHEAP knock off Dynamite is making out of the ABC kit!! Are they selling it RTR???

Anyway, I am still pissed at that mag for last months issue. How long has the X-4 been out???? I have had mine since January, finally they mention the car!!! BUT of course it doesn't make it in to the actual article!!!

AND what about the DIGI Q??? NO mention at all? What are they step childred???

Do you all know WHY RC Car Action does this? It's all about having an American distributar!!!! BUT with the Internet WE don't have to worry about that!!! BUT IT STILL PISS ME OFF!!!

gertman, as you indicated RCCA is only ever going to promote the products that it's distributor buddies tell it to. There's not a chance for any import stuff (no mention of a Bit Char-G, but when "Microsizers" come out, guess what will be their "next big thing").

Overall, we (US based RC'ers) are the ones who miss out on the Good stuff. That is why, I stopped subscribing.

Just replaced the rear tires of my Rocket Racer with grooved slicks I had lying around from the front of an old Hasbro 4wd motorized toy car. The handling and controllable speed has increased considerably. I now have all the speed I need for my 12x25 foot useable basement area. I use Ray-O-Vac Renewals which are good for about 1/2 hour or so between charges. I am inpressed with what this car can do with a minimal amount of modification. I want to eventually try an ABC DTM-SP for comparison purposes. Anyone who has a Rocket Racer that runs on a slippery surface should try a set of higher traction rear tires to see what this car is capable of. I was set to buy a 4WD car for my slippery concrete basement floor until I tried this.

Btman, have you tried NiMHs, they should give better performance and better run times!

Have not tried NI-MH's yet but will soon. I am using the Renewal batteries because I had a set lying around the house from my mini-z. As much as I like my mini-z, I have not used it since getting the Rocket Racer because of the handling and precise control.

The NiMH will make a difference in run time.

Better yet, get a 6 cell ABC NiCad pack, remove your existing battery holder and tape the pack back as far as it will go on the chassis.
