battery layout

What size batteries (aa, aaa, 2/3aa, etc...), and battery configurations are you guys using? I'm currently using a 6 aaa flatpack and was wondering how it compares to other set ups.

What do you guys think of using a 6 aaa saddle pack with the receiver and esc in the middle?

Here's a picture of my saddle pack idea. Nothing is connected yet because I'm not sure if I'm going to go with this layout.

If you were able to find a smaller receiver, you could move the speed controller down onto your chassis. Right now it looks like you have a high center of gravity.

Putting the batts at the corners looks like a good idea for stability. How are u planning to attach them to the chassis?

My last question is, with this current config, will a body fit over it?

I'm plan on mounting the batteries directly to the chassis with double side tape. I still have to modifiy my rear brace so that I can slide the batteries all the way back. I'm looking at the XXL receiver to do just what you said. As far as bodies, I've only used a plastic NASCAR body so I don't know how the ABC lexan bodies fit.

If you were to get a Novak XXL receiver and a Hitec HS-81MG servo, you'll be able to put almost everything on the chassis.

that appears to be a hitec servo due the the wiring.

Correct, it is a Hitec servo. It's just the HS81, not the mg. Test drove the car today with this config and it felt pretty good. I think I'm going to stay with it for a while. Now all I have to do is replace the stock motor.

how does it compare in terms of handling and speed with the stock setup?

I've never tried the stock (6 2/3 aa) set up with the battery holder. Before this I ran a 6 aaa flatpack with the electronics mounted directly on top. I didn't notice a difference in top speed, but it seemed to be able to carry more speed through turns. It felt like I could drive more aggressively without upsetting the car. I don't have any lap times to compare against, so I'm not sure how beneficial the changes really are. I guess it's possible that all of this is just a "feeling".
