Mounting a '96 Impala SS Slot Car body...

I've finally found it...what I really, really wanted for my ZZ. A 1996 Impala SS body! Yessir...the ZZSS project shall comence very soon. You can see it at:

http://www.hoslots.carmodel.com/newrelease.html

It's at the bottom of the page.

My question is, since they offer two options, which would be easier for a ZZ? The Tomy AFX SG+ version, or the Aurora Model Motoring T-Jet? I have absolutely no experience in the slot car realm, so any help would be appreciated since these buggers are a bit pricey. I'm not afraid of a little kit-bashing, but the less work, the better!

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Chris, soon to be owner of a 1/64th 96 SS, and a 1/1 94 Caprice SS!

Ooops...

It seems the options are Aurora T-Jet, and "newer chassis wheelbase and stance." The Tomy AFX seems to be on the '54 truck. Sorry about that.

resin bodies

the caprice looks pretty nice, and will probably work for what you want. the nice thing about the ZZ's is that you can find some rims that will match your SS.

The thunderjet bodys have ridges on the inside that you will have to grind off to make fit on the ZZ chassis.

I've done some work with resin before, and one thing may be a problem... it isn't very flexible, and depending on how good he is at making the bodies, it may be thick and heavy. the lower quality ones have pin holes that would need to be filled. It dosn't look like you'd have this problem, but you never know.

You may want to ask him if he could make a custom body for the Zip Zap... Most resin kitters are individuals doing it on their own, and willing to do some custom work for you. He may be interested enough to start making bodys specifically for zip zaps.
It's always worth the sugestion.

He he he...a GN...

That was my next project...had to do the SS first though. I guess I'll have to throw a ceramic turbo in it, and make it a GNX now since the GN has already been done.

As far as weight is concerned...this is going to be the "Show" car. The dragster, and lap racer probably will get lexan bodies (probably a '65 Impala, and F body (or maybe a C5 Vette) respectively).

Thanks for the reply. I've got an e-mail in for the guy, and am waiting to hear details.

Thanks again,

Chris
