6cell performance=WOW

Hey ya'll,
just wanted to let everyone know that I finally got the 6cell battery installed and working in my Mini-X. WOW..man this thing does donuts super easy and is lightning fast!!! IRC and TinyRC you guys sure weren't kidding about the performance boost.
I got my MRC super Brain 959 today and got the Deans plugs soldered on. AFter soldering the leads to the pack I couldnt get the pack to fit too well so I removed the + and - springs also and just extended the wires and put a plug on it. had to use a bit of tape to hold the pack in but no biggie and it works fine that way.
I will be posting a pic of the pack installed soon. The Ferrari body is done so I'll post another pic of the details.

Glad to hear your having fun with the X. Please post pics as I would like to see your install it sounds great!

ksavage68, isn't it awesome, I knew you'd be amazed! When installing the 6-cell, you do in fact need to remove the battery retention springs, those are for the 4 loose cells only. The 6-cell is assembled so it doesn't need them.

Just got my 6 cell today... I have to wait til tomorrow to install it though:( I can't wait!!!

By the way... thanks Tiny RC... I got everything a-okay! you're awesome!

Im planning on purchasing a rtr mini-x and a 6 cell pack within the next month or so. A question in my mind is how do you charge the 6 cell pack? Because they are grouped into little 3 cell pyramids do you need a special charger? Also I was wondering how the pack hooks up to the car itself. I was hoping someone would have good close up pics of the 6 cell pack installed in the mini-x.

Glad to hear; thanks! :D

malform, do you have any other RCs? The 6-cell pack requires an RC charger rather than a normal wall charger like loose AAA cells. Let us know if you're not clear on what I mean and I'll explain further. RE installation, you just remove the battery retention springs used by the 4-cell, and then drop the 6-cell in. I'll take a pic unless someone else already has one handy?

malform -

Here is a sorry excuse for a web page showing some attempted pics of the 6-cell conversion. Also an idea for charging on a shoestring budget. Should at least put a coffee time on that setup!

6-cells

dgilpin, that's a great resource, thanks for creating it. Especially of interest to those who don't already have a charger that they can use for the 6-cell.

Yeah, I have other cars, mostly bits at this point. I got interested in the mini-x after I bought a basic kit off ebay for $10. After looking at the prices of everything to get it ready to go I decided I’m just going to by a ready to run kit and the 6 cell pack.

I am familiar with the chargers your talking about, I have a couple of them for other battery types. But the ones I have are just flat, if I tried to put a pyramid shapes pack in it one battery would be sticking out the side. Is this how it works? What charger do you suggest? And where can I find this super brain thing I keep reading about? I cant find that thing.

And thanks for the help :D

Malform,

I know the rtr kit is on sale in HK, and it looks like a good deal - BUT I encourage you to order from tinyrc (as I did for the rtr). If you add in all the shipping, long wait, and all-sales-are-final customer support, I don't care much for ordering from HK anymore. Price comes out to a only few bucks difference.

Tinyrc has free shipping over $100, so get the extra body and stuff, too. Mine was prepainted, but the shop said clear - looks like he fixed that now. Picture shows pre-painted.

Your basic kit is a gold mine of spare parts. That is exactly what I did.

Just my experience. Besides, you want to keep this site up don't you?

No I don't work for TinyRC.

I was planning on ordering either from here or dinball. I was kinda leaning tward here because I like one of the bodies they have, and if that makes my shipping free, why the hell not? :)

When I order from Hong Kong it only takes 8 days to arrive with the cheapest shipping. And I think dinball is a great place to buy things.

If i were you i buy from tinyrc...........

tinyrc 08-15-2002 08:55 AM

malform, sorry, what I mean was did you own any other larger scale RCs, as you might already have had a charger that could handle the 6-cell. The 6-cell cannot be charged in a regular AAA charger, you need a proper RC charger. In addition, you need one that can handle AAAs, as many only do sub-C. Any NiMH-aware charger with current adjustable down to 1A or so should be fine. The SuperBrain would be great for this. If you need one, email us and we can special order one for you.

malform 08-15-2002 09:07 AM

Do I have any larger rc cars? Currently no, I do not. Next week I will be ordering a ultima st, then shortly after that I want to buy my rtr mini-x..

So where can I get this superbrain and how much do they run?

tinyrc 08-15-2002 10:28 AM

malform, we can get you one, please email us. Thanks!
