Rare Earth Magnets RULE

Wow for $1.30 at Radio Shack I really improved my steering. Remeber my previous thread about thewt distribution because the steering was a bit limp? Well no worries anymore! This magnet manhandles the steering over, and snaps it back to center like a champ. i noticed my springs dulled the steering response, but with the new magnets the springs have no effect at all.

i do notice that turning to the left full throttle creates a tighter donut than turning right, but i can attribute that to the engine torque. when i snap steer there is equal response from both left and right now. amazing!

Well they're not so much for fixing steering errors.

The rare earth magnets hold turns a lot better than the standard magnets, so even if somehow during a turn more force is added to the wheels like engine power, or you run over something bumpy, it stays locked in to the turn, which gives better control. Understeer will now only occur because of losing wheel grip, instead of the engine pushing forward too hard and the magnets not being able to overpower the engine's forward momentum to hold the wheels in a turn.

I have them in all 3 of my cars, and they handle like they're on rails.

whats the radio shack part #?? i wanna get some of these bad boys for my clones.. im assuming they r all the same size

xatu 12-26-2002 07:07 PM

I wouldn't mind some either.... My steering sucks in my cars. I have a couple of questions though, when you bought the magnets, were they the right size to fit in the holder? Or, did you have to resize them to fit?

JTM 12-26-2002 07:20 PM

im back form radio shack, bought the magents, they come two in a package and they r the exact fit you need... seems to work better havent tested them much but now i can turn the wheels without moving forward, and it turns way better on carpet... it was like 1.72 after taxes (california) radio shack part # 64-1895

Cool, perfect timing too, my friend is coming to pick me up in a bit, and we will probably stop by Radioshack and get some :D

JTM 12-26-2002 07:26 PM

i also bought 3 more cars, another skyline (coudltn find anything else) a s2000 and an accord the s2000 is from kaybe's its called a rally racers and its VERY quiet it was 14.99. and i also got the other skyline from there, well i had the skyline body so i took the accord body off and put the wal greens skyline body on. the only drawback to the s2000 is its not clear plastic.. oh well. i found out that the walgreens cars use 70MAh batts wich is prolly why they r som much quicker than microsizers. anways, the magnets work good in place of the ceramic mags.

Is there a certain way that the magnets have to go in? Does it matter which side the magnet faces when it is snapped in?

JTM 12-26-2002 09:11 PM

yes, they need to go in the same way the old one comes out, if north is left then north needs to be left... best way to figure it out is to put it to the other magnet.. when it sticks slide the old one out and replace the new one in the SAME direction... remeber south attracts north and north attracts south

old mag
n<->s
new mag
n<->s

together they will attract like this
n<->s n<->s

so if you stick them together and slide them out in the same way then youll get it right away :)

xatu 12-26-2002 09:16 PM

My friend took apart his front end, then put it back together, but, he put the magnet in backward! So, when he pushes the left button to go left, the car goes right! And vice-versa for the other one.

BTW, when you typed out the magnet dealy for the n and s thing, when you typed n<>s, it looked like nos :D

JTM 12-26-2002 09:25 PM

heh, i wasnt even thinking of that... ill fix it..

cowfish_29 12-29-2002 02:09 AM

so radio shack generally has these in stock? thats cool. It seems like kind of an obscure item.

JTM 12-29-2002 07:04 AM

nah, they use magents for LOADS of projects.. were just lucky the mag they used in these cars is a standard size :)

SPEED 12-29-2002 11:17 PM

Got my self a REM a few days agao. It has better steering response than before. for the cheap preice i suggest people should get this great hop up.
