I've shaved my Zip clean. After experimenting with few clone PCB's I realized that I could shave down the walls and lay the PCB flat on the chassis. I did this for two reasons. I wanted to reduce some weight, cos I plan on putting in an extra battery and I wanted to be able to put in some bucket seats I pulled out of a import tuner die-cast car. Here's the first pic.

That's very interesting. Faster PCB and lighter chassis. That Zip is gonna fly! Now, if you could only use the original Zip controller, I'd be doin it myself. I got a gutted Motorworks clone sitting here with a good donar PCB.

Just get a matchinig frequency microsizer. Since they are setup for use in the us, much like the zips are, you can most times swap and not even have to do any pot setting.
I did this to my pt cruiser, used a 49mhz microsizer, and its bee working fine. Any controls that were reversed, I changed the car's wiring to handle. i'm seriously considering doing what stridex has done, but leaving a small bit of wall for structural reasons. I've also been shaving the heck out of the sides of my FF eclipse body as well as aesthetic junkn (cut out the holes that should be cut out, including that duct on top of the car). It's quite a bit faster, but its been killing batteries, so I've put the nicd from the microsizer into it, and i think im seeing a bit better runtimes. I could have had a dud battery though, who knows. BTW use the microsizer tires in back, and zip tires up front. it helps handling quite a bit, and just plain looks better. |
