Playable diorama

I´m going to make a playable diorama and I think that i now have an idea to make it more real. To bring more realism to a diorama with hard ground everywhere and some hills in it, I was thinking about a "living" ground which is able to react to the things you are doing with your combat. I´ve tried some different sorts of material and come to the conclusion that cork is the best.
You can split it in many small peaces ( 4-5mm ) with a kitchen machine. You have to be carefull not to make the peaces too small - that will stop your combat when turning in one point.
If the peaces are big enough you can turn your combat untill it hits the ground like they do in reality. I´m going to make some areas with a deeper ground to fill it with splitted cork - the smaller the peaces of the cork the bigger the possibility that your combat will stop. So you can make different areas with different splitted cork to give a little risk to the game. If your combat is shooten in an area of big splitted cork - no problem but if you get shooten in an area with small splitted cork you are second winner.

Wow, great idea! Did you just use the type of corks in wine, or ?

What I first tried was some cork ready splitted in a plastik bag for 1,30€ ( for a full hand of it - much too expensive for my Diorama but worth for a try) for Dioramas for H0-trains. Now I´m going to search for more material - perhaps some stuff for the ground of your house. Corks for wine are ok but who will drink so much wine... I hope that I´ll find a solution. I´ll post more later.

Anyway, some cool stuff could be done with model RR scenery and kits.

That would be fun invason i want to make a setup where you can run a train but race bits and tanks all into one i wonder if they would let you run a tank on it ?

I like the cork idea. I replied to your other post about what material you used. After reading this I assume it's cork. I considered using small landscaping rocks to achieve the same effect.

Beetyii, how much time did you spend on your dioramas? All I can say is if Tiny ever runs a contest you got my vote. The design and detail is simply amazing!! The scale looks perfect for these tanks. TOP NOTCH!!!

more than 35 degrees become difficult to climb - danger of overturning !
This means :

10cm high needs 15 cm in lengths.

The power of the tanks is much more than enough.

for a moment i thout i was looking at a bonzi tree base you make it look soooooo easy

I am making my diorama out of paper mache on wood and my stepest slope is roughly 50 degrees and 3.5cm high. Do you think the tank can climb it?
My tanks are coming on the 19th so I can't test it yet.


btw, I cant stress enough how much I like your diorama.
