Possible Crip Cap in Auto Modelista PCB?!

1 Attachment(s)
I can't find the crip cap on my PCB, as it is shown on QFM's website, BUT....

I took some pics of my PCB (the underside)...and I found this LARGE black thing that links the two areas indicated in the QFM pictures, but on the underside instead of the topside.

Is that my crip cap? Anyone please help...

Take a look at the attached picture.

well I dont know what its doing, but I do know its a HUGE capicitor! You might have just discovered something pretty good here!  (assuming that it is in the same place as the other cap!) Does anyone else know the purpose of this cap in the car? :)

I posted the same thread on another board, and someone (expert, i think) said that that's just a noise filter, and NOT a capacitor.

But anyone who wants to give it a try, go ahead and let us know :D

noise filter huh? looks exactly like a cap to me

Not to insult you, but how educated in this stuff are you? Honestly, I don't know a thing about circuitry and stuff. What do you think I should do?

Check my other post ("Am I missing it? Crip Cap on PCB") and look at the pic of the topside of my PCB. Someone on the other board told me that the crip cap is slightly to the right of where it usually is...Is that true?

I have an Lxx, and that is on my pcb,
If you take it off it wont work.
It needs to be there in order for the car to work.

VWarner, which part are you talking about? This big black thing, or the piece in this picture?

(SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT THIS IS THE ACTUAL CRIP CAP, ONLY MOVED OVER A BIT)...

Hi,
I removed the big black thing.
Hmmmm.. that pic you just showed is interesting!!
I hope that is the crip cap, because my lxx doesn't have a crip cap, according to all previous pictures.. maybe that is the "new" location for the crip cap.
I hope so!

Thanks for the encouragement!!

Anyone else have input about this little thing??

vwarner 11-10-2002 08:21 PM

Darn!!
I just looked on my PCB and it doesn't have the crip cap that is circled above...

Need4Speed210 11-10-2002 09:40 PM

well im kind of confused here. But Crip Caps are ussually on the remote. Only the NEW bits have a crip cap on the car PCB (ie. Supra and newer) Im not sure about the cap on the pcb, but it probably wont make a difference. Im only 15 and learning this stuff my own. But I *think* Noise filters take off the peaks of the current. Or keeps the radio interference down, im not sure. But it *probably* wouldnt make any difference. :(

Anyone more knowledable got an answer?

the second pic u posted of the top of your board, I removed that thing from my 350z's board and it didn't do jack squat to the range, still stuck with 5' range. It definatly didn't have any adverse effect on the car tho, try it. I removed mine with a jeweler's screwdriver, because my soldering iron is far too large to undo the connection of that little capacitor.

here's what my 350z's board looks like now, with the exact thing you circled, just removed.
