masking

i am goin 2 paint my rx-7 clear body and was wondering if i can use a transparent tap to mask out the windows and lights. i was planing 2 just use elmers school glue 2 mask it out, but i dont trush it that much as tape.

Glue?

If you go to your local hobby shop you should be able to find masking tape in different sizes.

Just make sure that the edges are sticking securely. It's the details that kill ya".

but can i use transparent tape? cuz i dont have a hobbyshop near me.

Speed-D 10-30-2002 11:20 PM

Sure.

There is nothing wrong with transparent tape. Just make sure that it sticks in the edges. Otherwise you will be doing a lot of touch-up painting. I have learned from my mistakes the hard way.

SPEED 10-30-2002 11:23 PM

Transparent tape will let the piant under it. It's better to use Masking tape to mask out windows and such. Also if you can get to a hobby shop try using Liquid masking. Might be easier to use instead of tape.

Speed-D 10-30-2002 11:30 PM

Excuse my ignorance.

What is liquid masking?

masking tape

i've tried
a few things
and this works best for me
use plain ole masking tape
and draw the outline
around the area masked with
a fine point sharpie
this sticks the edges down good
then you also have a line
to cut around with an xacto
i'm using testors acrylics
which kinda suck
but i like the easy cleanup
and i can spray inside safely
testors makes a cheap airbrush
(14 bucks with paints)
its just acan of propellant
and a spray jar thing
and its working great for me
heres one i'm working on
haven't done the final touchup
still some primer showing
around the windows

oink

Nice

That looks pretty good.

I have found that the back end of an X-acto knife works well for sticking the ends down. With that no touch up is needed.

I use the "Testor Acrylics" as well. But I don't have an air-brush. Yet. :D

hmm....., nice. y is there white lines in the windsheild?

hbarer 10-31-2002 12:59 AM

primer

the primer that came with the airbrush
always seems to
bleed a bit
it might be too thin
i gotta find another one

whats a primer? and did u mask the light like that? or it came out like that cuz it seems 2 be smaller then the regular Bb .

good ol masking tape [the off-white kind] works fairly well...
although now i learned that arcrylic paints are more longer lasting and touchable than enamels...
well thats from my short experience...
i use Tamiya paints for the whole body, and use Testors paint for small details ....testors is cheap, Tamiya is not :D
