how do you become a moderator?

tinyrc 10-27-2002 12:02 PM

Usually we will post to the Forums when we are looking for new moderators. We then talk to interested candidates and pick the best ones. :)

usagi 10-27-2002 05:38 PM

Think its easy? no way.

MLE_Sol 10-31-2002 12:35 AM

Just an idea I thought I'd throw at you guys...

At HondaDelSol.com, the Admin came up w/ a points system...1 point for a post in a thread, two for making a new thread, 3 for forum recruitment (of course we're lacking in members, so we could probably do that a lil easier...)
but at any rate, he sometimes holds a contest when he's looking for mods, runs it for a month...whoever gets most points gets to be moderator, if they'd like. People that whore threads, loses points. But like I said, we don't have many members, I doubt it would be as easy to pull off over here.

If you really want to be a moderator, make a forum on EZBoard and have fun. YOu get to change your forum names, make stickys and the fun part, abuse your mod powers on the members; that is, if theres actually members :D.

Yea, Usagi is right, modding is hard. You have to stay away from the temptation to edit people's post, change their profiles and close threads without valid reason :D.

usagi 10-31-2002 12:44 AM

yes, but then again it does not always work. It has but not always. Tiny might look into this issue.
I don`t like editing posts or deleting them...............Its not fun and people get the idea all you want to do is abuse power. I have better things to do then babysit you guys:D

323iT 10-31-2002 12:46 AM

i'm usually the one closing old threads...cleaning up the forums making room for fresh posts:o

usagi 10-31-2002 12:52 AM

That makes two of us:D

MLE_Sol 10-31-2002 01:29 PM

Heh, I'm sure it's not that bad....at HondaVision, some nameless mods tend to love closing threads...stuff that pertains to the Sol forum. Then they'll make a totally OT thread and close it...or make a totally OT thread and leave it open, and have the people that complain banned...or at least threaten to do so. It's just become a flamewar over there...

This community seems nicer, ya'll don't seem to abuse your powers here like they do there :)

...So far at the forum I moderate, I haven't had to close any threads, just edit/close some double posts, or move a tech thread out of the gen chat forum. People haven't complained so far, I guess I'm doing a good job :)

Like I said tho, there's not as many members, so it's a lil easier to moderate too.

The Forums software is coming out with a new version soon which will include this kind of functionality (karma). :)

usagi 11-05-2002 02:36 AM

This place has its moments. But overall its fa better then some very large over populated RC Web boards.
