MM vs. RM

so i noticed they come rm and mm like mini-z's. rm is pretty useless for mini-zs so im wondering if racers find that to be the case at the races. the motor is closer to the axle due to it shape than a mini-z but its still rm. what have you guys seen?

nitrojunkie 05-02-2010 06:01 PM

RM tends to want to spin out easier.I imagine this is also the case with the Mini Z.But I would still like to have a 917 but it is short narrow and rm so it would be the trickiest of all to drive. But once mastered it would be very quick.

i have the 917 although its a twichy car to drive it really is great on tight technical tracks .....not the best on those layouts with long straights though

I am loving my 917, it feels super fast and I am dropping my quickest laps with it at the moment. It does hop a bit, but once you get to the middle of the battery is calms down and you can really coast into those turns at high speed. I have not run any large tracks yet, but on the wide L and RCP 917 takes it.

it isn't 'useless' but there are more race-worthy, competitive cars with an MM chassis. you need soft hands to make an RM do its thing IMO. they tend to be more precise in cornering if -like nitrojunkie says- you master its advantages.

Corvette is the most capable car of the 4 cars I have driven. They are all MM but all four are very different.

Hey Qon looks like a larger RCP track may become the norm for my local track in Mooresville check out the last few posts there. There will be a gyro in my future if we keep running dNanos.

hmm yeah ill probly need to get a different body and mm setup, ive never been a rm fan with the Zs, i find the cars to not steer as well at high speeds(take too long to rotate). i really wanted to run the dnano gallardo too :(

rm or mm, it's really a personal preference. mm does happen to be the most common choice.

personally i prefer rm for mini-z. it suits my driving style much better as i can sling it just where i want it. i did run mm for the last year though but made the switch back to rm just recently.
i will stick with mm for dnano simply because i like the motul z and don't want to mess with the car too much.

its advantages will become much more apparent on a big track... just use the ICS cable + software to reduce its effects. i've got my throttle setting down to 96 but steering stays standard at 128

the gallardo actually corners well but you have to lay back on the throttle a bit and go in wide cuz its a bit top heavy. its long wheelbase, RM setup does handle a bit funny. i think its competitive and very quick even on straights if its in the right hands.
