Dnano on rcp? rm vs mm?
 

Help me out here :)

Considering purchasing a dnano, and having raced miniz for a few years I've grown to really like the mm configuration. I recall that prior to adding a dps on my car, the RM configuration tended to exhibit more wheel hop out back when compared to the MM.

I wanted to know if this also was the case for dnanos. Normally, I would not be terribly concerned, but because the dnano necessitates a body + mounting kit to work with autoscales, I want to ensure that the car I choose to buy I like not only for it's aesthitics, but also for it's driving behavior.

I am considering: 917K, 787 or 911

Any insights? What are user experiences on rcp here for either configurations...and any issues with traction rolling on these tiny things?

I currently own the 787B and love it. The car handles very well around the track with no wheel hop. I also use the Subaru but find that it has a little to much hop, mainly from being top heavy. If your going to be running at your local HTU track then go with the Kyosho 40F/10R tire compound for it. This combo seems to give the best grip around the track and you will probaly have to turn down the steering a little.

My opinion would be to just stick to a lower center of gravity car, 917K, 787B, ETC... They are to me the best handling cars. But there are aftermarket parts you can buy to make the other cars drive as well.

I've never run my Dnano's on the RCP track, but I can second the 787B recomendation. I also run on the HTU carpet style tracks and the 787B is excelent right out of the box. I would not recomend the 917 as it has tons of wheel hop and required lots of optional parts to get it running good. Just a thought, most of the cool RM bodies have to be drilled out in order to use the dampner assembly.

Again this is on the HTU carpet track so you might get different results on the RCP style track.

May be not anymore because of some new dampers for low profile car.

Are all RM's hopeless? The f40 looks fantastic also, and it shows similar width and height to the 787!

RM's are not hopeless... they're actually very good cars on technical layouts. the Porsche 911 GT3 should perform well on the linear style circuits used at HTUSA and you can install the SSG-DSP w/LED without body modification ;) ...its my favorite car on that type of circuit.

May be not the one I used (V1 MM) but I hope that the "V1 UpSideDown" should fit most low profile body. I hope someone with access to alot of car(Q'on:confused:) get one and maybe start a listing to let people know on which low profile car you can fit it.

Anyway if you're interested I suggest you try to contact TRP and see if they can stock other damper, they only have V1 MM at the moment, cause they really cheaper, I got mine for 8€ on TRP instead of the 15€ you see on LMN website.

Oh and DON'T drill a hole in this nice body, I believe the damper doesn't make that much difference, you better keep a nice looking car :)

Actully it makes a huge difference on this body, .5sec a lap on the HT carpet tracks here in the US. I went from 5+ sec laps to consistent 4.5sec laps.

You will need very little in the way of hop-ups for that car, its just about dialed right out of the box. But if you want some smoother performance install the ball diff and bearings. For tires I like the stock fronts with 20's in the back(stock is 10 in the rear). The two we have here turn on a dime but if you feel its a touch pushy you can go one softer on the fronts(40's); or you can clean the tires. We've found that after runing for awhile the tires glaze up and lose traction. To clean them spray windex or motor spray on a clean cloth or paper towel and rub the tires. Which tire combo will depend on how much use your track gets and the groove it builds.

You will not need the dampner as this car has very little hop when compaired to others we've tested here. But if you want to you can place a piece of foam(tape or glue it to the body above the rear axle); the size of the foam will be determined by the density of the foam you use. This limits the up-travel of the rear end and cuts out the hopping.

Just wondering, which HT are you going to run at? Have fun, these are a blast to run and you picked one of the best to start with.

Eddited to add: I forgot to memtion that I have the ball diff, bearings, and the Kyosho dampner on my 962(really hopped bad so the dampner was a must for this car). And I only needed the ball diff, bearings, and med Kyosho CF H-plate for my Enzo.

I race Mini-Zs at Fast Pace Racing, in San Jose Ca. they picked up a Kyosho
track when the San Jose HTUSA went out of business :eek:, so they wont
be on the Kyosho grid :D but that wont stop the FUN. ;)

Np glad to help. Too bad that you guys cannot get onto the Kyosho part of it but that may happen in time depending on how things go with the HT participation. I'm in Phx so if I ever get over that way I'll try and stop in and see how the action is going.
