any reviews of this yet? it seems rear dampening is desperately needed.

I added foam between the motor mount and the chassis, in the space created by the H-plate ... then I stuffed some more under the "hightail" rear end of the LeMans Porsche and it seemed to help -- you need to fiddle with the amount of foam to get just the right amount -- I wonder how it compares to this Atomic part?

I do agree that this is an area where the D'NaNo needs significant tweaking, rear dampening is something I struggled with all last night.

I tried the foam and was still getting a bit of hop. I have ordered a set and will let you know my opinion anyway in a few days. Hope I don't have to cut a hole in the back window of the Enzo though.

I just saw this listed on ebay today and was going to post it here. I posted it in the Mini-Z forum instead. I'm tempted by this disc damper and wondering if it'll fit under the Murcielago body. I think the Murcielago has more room than the Enzo?

I fit the kit on my Enzo today and did have to poke a hole in the rear window unfortunately. We race tomorrow at the HT in Mooresville so I will give my thoughts after I run it.

The DDS worked well and calmed down the rear of the car, BUT two with issues:
The holes in the discs are a bit large or the post is a bit small because there is a significant amount of play. The dampening doesn't start working till the post contacts the disc and you can feel this happening, especially with some fluid on the discs. This transition unsettles the car. I ended up sticking one of the metal washers included in the Atomic H-Plate kit into the recess of the upper disc. The washer fit the damper post closely, this took out the play to this disc at least and the car behaved better. I will have to make up a larger post or sleeve the existing post to fix this. Smaller holes in the discs would solve the problem too.

so if i read your post the product isn,t that good at all (before modding)
if you have too tweak that much , and you can,t make the holes in the disk smaller.
and i don,t like to cut a hole in the back ( that,s pesonal )

the hole doesn't bother me nearly as much as the concern regarding excessive play in the parts.

it's unfortunate that the first batch of parts from atomic all seem to require some revision/refinement. they've had over a year to get this prototyping done.

I also feel the hole in the carbon friction plate is much too large and the discs took a bit of sanding to get them flat. Since I might replace a few of the parts I think I spent 20 bucks on some springs and screws.

Interesting review. Another let down on Atomic's Dnano hop-ups. First, their ball differential looked promising but required some mods I believe, and now this? I thought they were pretty good with the Z's and this wouldn't have been much different? Or is it because it's smaller, it's harder to make precise? I'm rather disappointed at this moment.
While I generally buy hop-up's to look good, I want theme functional as well and these two upgrades from Atomic don't sound all that hot after all.
I am not an expert at perfecting something that requires working on and modifications in order to work properly. I'm much more of a plug'n'play type of guy and I like things to work instantly right out of the package.
I'm very glad for these reviews as it saves me money on purchasing these items that require fudging to work. Thank you, and thank's for the pictures!
I admit though, the disc-damper does look good, but I'd hate to drill a hole in my cars window for it to work. Might as well have a long antenna sticking out the back of it too.

some times you have to make sacrifices. you have to cut holes in windows on some mini-z's as well to get rear dampers to work. you can't design a damper to fit every body. you aim for the common sweet spot and the rest are 'some modification required'. it hasn't caused a calamity with mini-z and i doubt i will with dnanos.

Yes I'm aware. Remember when I built that black Countach and had to cut out a rectangular hole for the top shock to function? I didn't like doing that on that awesome AutoScale body, but it did function great and worked really well on the track. Then, when your on the track zipping around and around, you really don't notice those details, not when your looking at the overall picture.
I'd still hate to take away from the scale appearance of which makes these Dnano's so fantastic! I wonder what bodies the disc-damper will fit better under and what bodies you'd have to mod. One configuration I don't see this working on is the HM Delta bodies.

If you get questions about the hole or screw, and what they are for, simply pick one of the following:

a) it's the screw for the twin-turbo mod ... my car can now hit scale Mach 2.

b) the hole allows the nitrous oxide to escape.

c) watch closely at next week's F1 race, I sold the same mod to the Ferrari team.

d) it's a rear-view camera ... needed because Kyosho can't make a #$%! mirror that actually stays on the body.
