various 1:87 projects
 

So, since this appears to be the most active place in english posting about building these small scale wonders, I thought I'd start posting here.

I have ordered a lot of parts from Peter, and various places and started getting my supplies together for a parcourse, etc. While I wait on the vehicle parts to arrive, I started to work on a parcourse and obstacles.

I am using pink foam board, with a hotwire cutter I got for about 24 dollars at Hobby Lobby with their 40% off coupon. Very nice table style cutter.

Any rate, here is my first "hill" I have created with the help of my 3 year old daughter. It's not as realistic as it could be, but it's my first attempt at making any 1:87 scale obstacles. I have many more things, turf, limbs, been casting my own rocks from resin, etc, so I'll get there eventually.

I only wish, more people were involved in this scale building. I remember the hey day and man, I'd love to see if only a small scale scene become active start to grow. I own a 3D CNC set up, and am pondering making various components for sale to build the rc models and stuff for scenery.

Here is the first "hill" we created. My main goal is to kinda make the parcourse modular as in over time, we can rearrange it. Hence the separate hill.

nice hill. If you want to make a modular parcours, remember to install a kind of fixation between the modules. They easily move apart when you drive over them, or there appear ugly gaps if they don't fit tight together.

Do you want to build the Unimog on the photo? 2wd or 4wd? I have exactly the same in the drawer. But he has to wait until the MAN 630 is finished.

great, i've noticed a lack of postings in english about tttt.
i guess this means this "scene" is growing after all. :)
don't know if it's going to be "big",
specially after the recent new's that the "màrklïn" (famous european h0 scale
trainmodelmanufacturer) has gone bankrupt after 150 years.
reason ? kid's want to play videogames.....

i think it's fantastic parents encourage their kid's away from the games from time to time,
not that games can't be great fun, but the "model" hobby does teach many basic skill's
that the games never will.

where did you get the parts from ? did you cnc e'm yourself ?
(got to get me one of those machines sometime)

and what about connecting the modules together ?
i was thinking of building something modular for my micro tanks,
but am having a hard time making a smooth connection between the modules.
not that the tracked vehicles mind a little gap or bump,
but i would be gratefull for a solution to this "problem"

maybe velcro tape ?

So I got some parts from Peter, yes. My servo was forgotten in the package, but they sent it out immediately upon me letting them know.

The parts are unbelieveable, period.

I just need to figure out a battery solution and how to hook up my receiver and I am good.

those pictures make it seem like it isn't that hard to build.
aren't there any instructions with it how to hookup the receiver ?
what do you mean with battery solution ?

the parts look very nice, but i know a lot of peter's though :D
i guess it means you got them from germany ?

For the battery I recommend a lipo cell, at least 150mA.

I can't imagine what the problem with the reciever is ... :confused:

It seems that you have ordered the swinging rear axle from Peter. If you want to let it swing, remember to put as much weight as possible as low as possible. This is essential! But it will be anyway quiet difficult because of the epoxy chassis wich is much lighter than a brass frame.

With the chosen configuration the TTTT capabilities of the truck will be limited due to the tendancy to capsize earlyer than with a fixed rear axle.

My first truck was almost the same ... MAN 5to with the same parts from Peter.

Yeah, Peter from TTTT parts. Even with the instructions in German, I can still see what goes where. I assume when the time comes, the lower half(parts from peter) will take no more than 15 minutes to 30 minutes to build. Very easy from the looks of it.

The receiver only had the locations of channels 1-4, and S, +, - which I assume is Red-Positive, Black-Negative and Signal-White or odd color depending on servo.

I know this sounds elementary of me, but I do not know which channel the battery/power hooks to...I assume 1.

Also, I am leaning toward batteries from plantraco, because of their easy to use ready made charger. Simply get their BAHOMA kit, and attach leads to the end, and the other end of the lead be mini jst for the receiver. When it's time to charge, pop it on this:

Easy to obtain multiple batteries for more frequent play time.

I really didn't know I was getting a rear swing axle. I just specified I wanted a brass front axle, since this was my first order, and a slight language gap, I didn't know.

I plan to try to machine out an aluminum chassis that mimics the epoxy one, for added low weight. I have a desktop 3D CNC modeler, so when I get time, I'll have some fun.

Any idea how long run time you'd get out of a 150mah lipo?

As you said, each channel has one "+", "-" and "Signal" contact. It doesn't matter wich "+" and "-" you choose. For the power supply of the reciever and all channels it's enough to connect just one channel to the battery. It's even recommended because of interference problems. The guys here in germany have a special solution for that. Have a look in ths thread click, especially the posts 21 to 23.

It depends if you have also light in your truck. My 150mA cell is enough for about 15 to 20 minutes of driving with lights on.

Hey there everyone Iam in the proces of building a 1/87th vehicle but I might need some help from the pros here, my parts are coming from Germany.I am hoping that the pros here can give me a big hand on this big project and I will post picks of the project here. I sure hope you guys can help me on this specially on putting the LED on the truck, and how to hock it up on the circuit board.Thanks
