Some pictures of my MAN truck
 

Hi all,

These are some of the photos of my MAN truck. I started working on this about two years ago, but couldln't complete it until now because of various reasons. I got involved with this hobby soley because of this forum, and I am thankful to a lot of great builders on this forum. By the way, where have all the people gone?

Some specifications:
Body : Roco Minitanks MAN truck
Chasis : Scratch built using brass.
Motor : Surplus motor and gearbox taken out of a tape drive.
Servo :Hitec HS55
Battery : 4 cell 150mAh, from a 9V rechargeble pack
Receiver :Hitec Feather.
Transmitter: Hitec Focus 4
ESC : DIY using PIC12F625.

I doesn't look even one tenth as good as many of the trucks here, but I hope to improve as I build more. I still have some issues to resolve, such as excessive radio glitch, adding the detail parts etc, but it is fun to drive around. Some pictures in the next post.

Hello kalkurap,

very nice job! This must be the first MAN 5t model with articulated steering(?). That's quite inventive. Again, very nice.

Glad to see someone else who develops his own microcontroller stuff for micromodels.

I also wonder where everybody else went.

Thanks, but there isn't anythig new that I did on this one. I just copied the idea for the front axle from many of the other builds here.

And yes, building circuits is my other hobby, and these two go well together.
I wish we had more build threads here, it would have been fun.

that looks great man. hope mine turns out as nice. small circuits huh? is it safe to assume you built your own esc?

kalkurap!,very nice truck!.., i love your esc!.. is that a ni-cad battery?.. i would suggest you should use a li-ion battery bro, your truck will have a longer runtime!, small li-ion battery can be found inside a cheap chinese brand rechargable mp3 players, you can now charge your truck via USB, and you have a portable mp3 player as well!, just my opinion!.

I must support killers hint - remove the battery pack! A single li-ion or lipo cell will lower the center of gravity, which will result in a better offroad performance. These cells are much smaller as well - no gap between the bed and the cover. You will need a special charge for these type of cells.

hahaha yup!, can't believe it too!.. i must remove the dust from my trucks now and do some upgrades i guess?!.. as for the li-ion charger, you could use the MP3 itself as a charger, note that it has a built-in charger to charge itself through USB port.. or you could modify one of this click http://www.gamestech.com/nds_info/ND...ger_Boy/cb.htm to charge your battery!.

Thanks for stopping by Killer and Diets. You guys have been the real inspiration, I have looked at the photos of your trucks countless times. It is unbelivable what you have accomplished. Might take a couple years for me to get there, if I ever did.

I agree with LiPos having some advantages. Unfortunately, I am in the college right now, trying to reduce expenditure as much as possible. So, I had to use what I had. Moreover, I didnt put any low voltage cutoff circuit in the ESC, Lipos being sensitive to over discharge. Building the charger isn't all the difficult though.

You guys should post more or your work here, preferably some online build reports :) There is much more to learn for a beginner like I am. There is only so much one can understand by peeping into photos, trying to understand how you did stuff!
