Hey Im new here, obviously. Yesterday at my friends house i foundn an un opened monster truck zipzap. I asked him if i could take it homem and put it together and mess with it and he said i could. Its a Spider man hummer one. Well, this thing is SO awsome. I played with it for hours. I much liked crawling things and obstacles. I found on my own that taking the led top body off gives it more stability and the suspension pins hanging down can be shaved off for better carpet movement.

I like how they are so cheap too. I wanted to do gas cars and traxxas cars but they are too expensive. These can be modified like them cant they? I noticed they have lousy steering and travel. Do they make softer springs, lift kits, different chassis, etc? I found the mt performance upgrade pack but speed is the last thing i want for a crawler. Is there a way i can make it go slower, but have more power when it comes to climbing something?

or mayby the axles go further out so the tires are further from the bulky chassis so it desnt flip as easy.

Someone please help me get started into building crawlers and doing mods to make this the ultimate crawler?lol I dont have many spare parts or anything though...

Welcome to the world of zipzaps!

Everything you want to do is very possible, and allready done with tons of tutorials to do it.

There are no specific springs you can buy for the zzmt, so you have to look around in pens and off of other things.

They don't make different chassis, or lift kits, that's for you to do.

Here is how you can make it slower, and still have lots of torque, it's called the 4th gear mod, found here : http://www.gcrossett.com/zipzaps/mod...slow/index.htm

To make the tires wider, try fliping them around. Put them on backwards.

There are lots of crawlers out there, just search around the forum, and web.

Start reading through the forums, you can find things to make them faster, make the articulate, mess with the gearing, or search for different springs.

Several comments, if I may:

If you also happen to be a model railroader, use Athearn's motor brush springs as a replacement for the stock suspension springs. They are the same length and diameter, but softer. You should be able to find them at a reputable hobby shop. Elsewhere I've noted the Athearn part number.

And a minor disagreement with my fellow Iowan, zzultimate: the gear mods described in the linked tutorial are 4- and 5-gear mods, referring to the number of gears employed, not 4th or 5th gear, as I would find on the shifter of my cars, mods. The 4th and 5th gear terms, in their general and common use, would not imply the type of gearing described in the tutorial. I've been criticized before for making this distinction, but I know the writer of the tutorial to be serious about the distinction, and am willing to speak on his behalf.

Longer axles, sure. Make your own extensions for the front. See the tutorial for dual wheels on the same linked site for some ideas. For the rear solid axle try some brass rod. If necessary I could provide a tutorial on my method for making the required wheel adapters.
