fixing rear end
Does anyone know how to fix slop in the rearend of a 1st gen zip?
mine is sloppy in the gear side and every time i go off camber the transfer gear grinds with the drive gear (blue gears for torque) :( any help plz!!!! |
Blue gears are for top speed. I'm curious, do you have the properly matched pinion gear(the one on the motor)? I think it's 11 teeth.

Blue gears are for max torque on a Zip. They are like first gear in a 1:1 car. To fix the slop, there are a couple of methods.
1. Sliver method- Slice a small sliver in the plastic next to the axel so the axel hole becomes smaller. Fill the gap with epoxy. This method is almost invisible. 2. Hogjowels method- fill the axel slot with JB Weld with the axel in place. As the JB Weld sets up, twist the axel continuously until the JB Weld is set. Keep turning the axel til it turns smoothly. This method is a bit ugly unless you do it neatly and paint the JB Weld black. 3. Place the chassis on the floor and strike it firmly with a ball pean hammer. Go to RS and buy one of the Pixar cars and put your body on it. Just kidding, lol. |

Azimoz the sliver method didn't really work out for me so ill try nagels way. edit: Opps I thought the sliver thing was adding a piece of plastic not cutting a away at it and moving it..lol. any way thx for the help and off to the workbench.. |
Hey, NP. Use what works for you. I've never used the JB Weld fix, but from what I understand it makes for a very smooth rear axle.
