what if i had the pinion gear straight to the axle?
if i was the modify my bit to have the pinion gear go straight to the axle think i'd have myself a pretty fast car? has anyone done this i would think it screw up the torque tell me what you think

Yes, this could be really fast, however, you would need to come up with a really torquey motor in order to be able to handle it, as the intermediate gear acts as a step-down to convert the high RPMs into enough torque to actually budge the car. Maybe combined with two inline cells or something it might work. Keep us posted on the results!

Yup, he is right. You will lose some serious torque and take-off speed will be very slow, and more than likely, you will have to push start your car everytime you wanna get it going.
To put a black 6 tooth pinion gear to a 23T orange axle gear is a ratio of almost 4:1 which is almost identical to the red bitracer axle, and thats not even the fastest one. The fastest available ratio is 3.43:1, which is the green Bit racer axle. Thats the ratio you have to beat. You should definitely use the white 7T gear to make a bigger difference. That should be a kick ass Bit! Cant wait to see it! |

You could try using a belt or chain drive. Belt would probably work better.

jwinges, great idea! The question is - where to find a suitable belt? A rubber band would work somewhat but slip off easily. Any ideas?

make a notch
if you make a notch or groove to make the belt stay in place it could work but i believe youd have to have the dual battery modification i get bored at work and think of wierd ideas LIKE HYDRAULICS

blacksabbath070, I tried to make the direct drive work today. I attached the axle by using a thin wire which was looped around the axle in two places, and then pulled through the holes that are in the back of the chassis just behind the motor. This was just a proof of concept test, as obviously the bodies wouldn't fit with this extended wheelbase. The wheels appeared to spin extremely fast with no load, but when the car was placed on the floor, its top speed seemed the same or less than normal, as apparently the load was too great. The direction was reversed due to the omission of the step down gear. Interestingly, the car seemed to move significantly faster in reverse. If I had a wide range of gears to play with, it may be possible to come up with a good ratio, but using BC-G gears the gearing was too much for the motor to handle. Looking forward to seeing what comes of the belt-drive BC-G!
