Newbie on the forums.....throw me in te right direction if ya hafta
Hey well I posted before in the "where are you guys from so we can race" thread, but here's my genuine, no preservative added newbie thread.
Got started in R/C years ago with a old radio shack porcshe 962c i tweaked teh daylights out of (only body, wheels and tires were original when i was done). Cost too much and I eventually killed it (don't ask, long story). Well now about 10yrs later (yep i'm an old fart at 23), I go to the radio shack looking for some PC parts, and I see this little red mustang mirco r/c (zipazp). Needless to say once I see all the hop-up parts im hooked. Then find out about bit char-g and how they are fater, and so on. Next day I buy my red 57mhz rx-7. Now named Speedlab, since its my frankestein. I used the zipzap as a parts ce, transferred the wheels to the rx-7, the suspension bars, and even modified the motors to fit without making the back end stress anymore (did that after seing hte rear clip crack down the middle :o ) Now I got a red Lancer with teh skyline body pack, I plan on keeping either this one, or the blue skyline I have coming in totally stock with exception to the motor (offical bit char-g only), the other will have light modifications (spring suspension, cat-5 antenna, etc). Sadly though, I can;t get the things to handle in any way, they keep doing donuts. For reference I'm trying to race em on my desk (contact paper over MDF). Any tips on how i can make it still handle turns well but not be so squirrely around corners? |
clean your tires really good and change the surface that you race on for starters and see if that helps. If you still get loose in the rear, you can put razor cuts in the tires.. Be careful when doing this.. Welcome to the forums

hey
you should buy the tomy bit racer tires...and use the their front tires...there's 3 to choose from and depending on how much u want to turn (note: none of them will cause u to spin out, unless ur back tires are really dirty) i personally went with the supposedly soft ones (the stock are much softer than any of em) and then use stock for the back....this makes u understeer... and not spin out |
I've started modding my old zipzap motors, and i found that the blue motor (1.0 in bit terms) would keep the car in check, but turning radius was kinda bad.
So i'm starting to think its one of two things 1) gearing may be a bit too torquey for the smallish track im runnig it on (used 1 microsizer track kit, and made a giant arena and just following it) or 2) I need to learn some throttle control :p Thanks for the input, I'll be hunting for the tires soon |
yeah...its the tires that make your car do donuts...
u just gotta have the right one for the right surface.. ive noticed that the treaded tires like the ZZs are best on concrete and other not-so-smooth surfaces it may also be the stabalizer...you might have to use the one with the most "holes" in it.... |
