04 Mustang - Custom color changing paint.

bought the 04 stang today finally. (put it off since i hate red)
so i spent the last couple hours sanding, primering and repainting
each part. wound up using the Dupont color changing paint
black->purple->green

here it is with the flat black primer. almost left it like this too..it's pretty sweet. and i hijacked the dark headlights off one of the other front bumpers. all body panels are stock. the other ground efx are too flashy IMO.

nice work. I have that same paint. Trust me. If you lay a coat of the clearcoat that came with it, the car would look 10 times better. Windows look like crap with the black primer.

BigStang 02-10-2005 07:59 PM

where can i get this paint or a paint like it??...that 3 color fading is incredible..what grit sand paper did you use to sand body?

i plan on clearcoating it. just havent had the time.

BigStang> i picked it up at WalMart. it's made by dupont and comes in a package with 3 cans. black primer, color changing mid coat, and a can of clearcoat. they offer several different schemes, the one i have is purple->green

and i used 400 grit paper. seemed to work out well. roughed it up enough, and didnt really remove any material.

BigStang 02-11-2005 07:56 PM

Clint- thanks man thats so sweet...i was wondering..would a 600 grit sandpaper work??...and do they come in different colors because i dont exactly want to copy you

Clint 02-11-2005 08:12 PM

600 might take too much effort to get rough.. but you can try..

here's the paint specs.

ok im gonna go with the red kit..i think...and im using 320 now...,how do i know when its sanded well..there is no gloss whatso ever left, but you can still tell it is red.... and how long should i spend on sanding it? im new to this so i need a little help...

Clint 02-11-2005 09:10 PM

when the red isnt shiny.. it will look all dull with tiny hairline scratches. you dont have to sand it much.. just roughen up
the surface so the spray paint has something to stick to.

practice on a spare hood or other unneeded part if you feel a bit sketchy doing it.

BigStang 02-11-2005 09:33 PM

bingo...thats what mine loooks like....now i just gotta find the paint...

thanks for the help

Woah woah.. what's with the mad wheel offset.
Is that normal or did you just put the wheels on loose?

I <3 wheels that barely fit in the body.

ah.. finally someone noticed. :D

i've been working on an adjustable rear offset for rims.
nut is inside the rim, instead of outside. use two to prevent the wheel from spinning off and to provide adjustability.

once i finish it i'll post some pics. but from what i posted, im sure anyone could replicate my idea. it does involve shaving the inner part of the rim hub and jbwelding a nut to it.

this will make your mustang, look like a mustang. :)
