What are the Must Mods for Xmods?
 

I'm a newbie and I just picked up a Yellow Nissan Skyline I would like to know what are the Must mods on the Xmods.


I read a bit and every one says that bearings are important.. Which bearing Sealed or Normal or does it matter?

I definetly want a AWD kit as well, whats a skyline with out AWD?.

Overall this is the coolest little RC that I had ever owned but couple things I am not sure about.

The turning radius mod. Is this worth it?

Stock Lug Nuts -> they seem to suck a bit.
I had a heck of time keeping good traction, is there better tires? (garage surface)

There is a Tonne of wobble in the front wheels, is this normaL?

What is a good motor and gear combo for racing ?(I heard 1stage is the suck)

Also there seems to be a bit of lag between the radio and reciever can I improve the lag times?

Finnal question is it worth replacing any of the drive shafts or controller arms with alum ones ?

Is the battery mod good upgrade?

Did I miss anything?

C'mon guys...it's okay...Let the newbie know...

The bearings depend on where you plan on running..if you are outside, I would suggest sealed. Also, small aluminum washers(#4) that I bought at Lowes did the trick to fix the wheel wobble.

If you are planning on upgrading the batteries, go with Li-Ion. Don't waste your money on anything else...If you get Li-Ion, you NEED the AWD kit for sure.

The motors at AtomicMods work great, I have three of 'em and they all rock...The lower the gear pinion (ie 8-tooth, 9-tooth), the quicker the car accelerates. The higher tooth count is better for top end.

I have one car with the CF driveshaft, and I didn't really notice a difference, but I haven't speed checked it.

The aluminum pieces look good, but are $$$$. The only ones that I think would be worth it would be the steering pieces, as the tolerance is much closer than the stock plastic.

The turning radius kit is good from what I have heard...who knows?

Seriously, go out and buy a 99 cent pack of 3.3K ohm 1/4 watt resistors. Solder one inline on the orange wire and one inline on the brown wire of the servo (the thing that controls your steering.)

Will that really work? That sound pretty easy...Those things are kind of hard to solder on the board, but easy to solder in line. Can you pick those up at RS?

It works freakin awesome, and as long as you center your servo, it'll work great! If your servo is not centered it'll try to go past it's limit on one side. That might burn it up pretty fast. I have three xmods. I bought the resistors when I bought my last two xmods. Even before motors or anything.

That is cool. Those steering fets are to damn small to install.

Did you have any issues with fitting the resistors in? Can you post a pic? I know that requires dis-assembling the car, so if say NO, it's cool. Thanks for the tips, I am going to try that.

Did you get them at RS? And the specs you gave, is that on the package?

I don't have any way to post pics, unfortunatly, but RS has them in little drawers, and the specs are on the pack.

Thanks for the Tips guys. I've been looking at the steering mod it looks easy enough to do, I got ample expierience with an Iron.

I recently got the following, small stuff atm.

Spacers, WideTrack Bearing Mod to reduce wheel woble, CF drive shaft and some nice Alum Lug nuts the plastic ones drive me nuts. (paid about 40 usd for all of them)

I am definetly waiting for Lio Mod. (I don't have my $75 trickle charger here atm)
I also have a new engine in my sights.
Fet mod is a definete yes for me.

I can find any alum dog bones or arm cups anywhere. I am in a remote location so I have to ebay lots of stuff.

I've done the steering resistor mod on all of my XMods, except I used a 2.7kohm resistor. With these resistors, the servo stops right at the plastic stop on the servo case. I'm sure the 3.3kohms are trying to go past them. Now, this is not necesarily a bad thing, because I think you can trim that and get even more steering range.

Did you put them in on the orange and brown wires on the servo? Without a doubt, you will need to trim the steering knuckles because of tire rub, correct?

Yeah, the tires rub. Be careful though and try to adjust the trim on your controller. Sometimes the arm of the servo can slip out of the tie rod.

I didn't have to trim my steering knuckles...
